Scholarship For Single Mothers - African American Mothers

If you live in Nebraska, and you?re an African American single mother, you might want to apply for a scholarship for single mothers. The money came from Sister Thea Bowman Foundation, and it will award grant money to the College of St. Mary amounting to $30,000 for four years. The college will also be matching with another grant amounting to $24,000.

The eligibility requirements are as follows ? a high school graduate single mother, low income, a Catholic, and should gain admission at the said college. The mentors will also be African American as well as a host family. Single mothers can also bring at least two of their children aged nine or below.

Once you?re accepted, you and your children will be living in a dorm together with other single mothers who qualified for the scholarship. The dorm has great facilities including baths, playrooms, kitchen, etc., which can make your children?s stay very comforting and safe. Even if you don?t live in Nebraska, but you?re an African America, you can apply since there is a dorm where you can stay.

Application forms will come from the College of St. Mary and the Sister Thea Bowman Foundation. Both forms should be filled out honestly and correctly. You should be aware that the scholarship is not for the full amount so you must qualify for student loans and financial aid.

You can use the internet to search for more details about this scholarship. If you are looking for a full scholarship, you may have to look elsewhere. Partial scholarship is the only help you can get, but you can still apply for student loans or other financial aid/assistance.

The loans should be repaid in due time but the scholarship money is free. Since you will be required to attend classes at College of St. Mary, try to gather relevant info about the college. Determine the courses offered as well.

This is a tough decision for single mothers. If you only have 1-2 children, then going to Nebraska and stay in a dorm will not be a problem but what if you have more kids? This scholarship for single mothers is just of the many scholarships out there; shop around.
